Timeshare 101: Is it Too Late To Cancel Your Timeshare Purchase?

Written by Alexander Barbara on May 7, 2006

Did you buy a timeshare at full price from a developer? If only a day or two has passed, you should cancel the purchase immediately! But what if it is too late for you to cancel the purchase and get a refund?

Since most rescission windows are only a few business days, the likelihood is that this crucial information was not able to reach you in time. If the window to rescind your purchase has ended, you are committed to purchasing your timeshare.

Although you may not want to do so, you must accept this fact and enjoy your week. It is understandable that you may have regrets, but you must set them aside in order to truly enjoy all that timeshare has to offer. You could try to sell your timeshare on the secondary market, but the odds are not in your favor. Some high demand timeshares may sell for near your purchase price, but the majority will sell at a discount of 70% from the full price.

At this stage, there are few other reasonable options. Once the rescission period has ended, the purchaser has little choice but to either keep the timeshare or sell it at a huge loss. With this in mind, our recommendation is to take advantage of the benefits of vacation ownership. Utilize your new purchase to its fullest.

Despite the higher cost, you were still sold a vacationing concept that was capable of providing your family with much more value than its actual cost. As we will show you in later chapters, even a timeshare purchased at developer prices will pay for itself in the long run. Your only responsibility is to ensure that you use your purchase and enjoy your future vacations.

Rather than dwelling on the added cost, you should focus on learning how to maximize the possible benefits from your timeshare. Once you experience this wonderful concept, you can use your newfound knowledge to travel around the world, provide advice to friends, and even select the perfect additions to your timeshare portfolio. Best of all, you can experience the world and enjoy quality accommodations at a very reasonable price.
